"Spirit of Science"

Welcome to the Phytolith Research Institute (PRI) Blog! Its all about the "Spirit of Science"!

The Phytolith Research Institute (PRI) was established in the year 2006. It is the only private institute in Asia dedicated for the application of phytolith analysis in various multidisciplinary sciences. PRI is housed with a laboratory, microscopes, reference library and herbarium . It is an ideal place for the growth of Phytolith science. The institute is well connected to the best of science internationally!

The year 2010 started with a formal visit to "The Royal Society" (London). The Royal Society is the world's oldest scientific academy in continuous existence, and has been at the forefront of enquiry and discovery since its foundation in 1660.

At the Linnean Society (London) a day with Dr. David Cutler and the President of the society. The Linnean Society of London is the world’s oldest active biological society. Founded in 1788, the Society takes its name from the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778). The Society continues to play a central role in the documentation of the world’s flora and fauna – as Linnaeus himself did – recognising the continuing importance of such work to biodiversity conservation.

At the Worcester College - Oxford. The University of Oxford is one of the leading universities in the world.Although the exact date of foundation remains unclear, there is evidence of teaching there as far back as the 11th century. It was a great success for PRI to present a research paper on Phytoliths analysis (74,000 yrs BP) post Toba Super Volcanic Eruption. The research findings have helped to reconstruct the vegetation sequence and environment of that period. The research has contributed greatly in helping understand the impact of paleoenvironment on Human Evolution.

Meeting Fellow scientist at the University College London was inspiring especially at the Archaeology Department. Founded in 1826, UCL was the first university institution to be founded in London.UCL is one of the most highly ranked and prestigious British universities. The university currently ranks 4th in the world.

A formal get together at Worcester College-Oxford. ‘Meeting –socializing-Interacting’ is an integral part of PRI. Meeting fellow scientist, exchanging ideas learning and keeping updated with the best of science is the way to grow!
